"Getting Funded: Canadian Success Stories" and will have the following focus:
In the past several years, when there have been few financings for Canadian life sciences companies, some have succeeded. What is their secret? We will showcase two Canadian companies (Cytochroma and Enobia) that got funded during that period as well as their respective Canadian and US investors (VG Partners and OrbiMed). The purpose of the panel is to illustrate some important successes, and above all, to celebrate them. Together these companies and their investors will tell the story of why it worked (when for others it didn't). The panelists will reveal the creative strategies and tactics utilized by these winning companies in their approaches to investors and why and how these investors were won over. The investors will also share stories as to companies they have not funded and what went wrong. Our singular goal is to impart special insights to our audience that will enhance their chances of getting funded, and especially, to inspire them to believe that, even in this difficult period, funding can be within reach.
Some companies have found innovative ways to raise capital. A panel of leading experts and entrepreneurs will share their financing experience and discuss innovative funding and partnership opportunities. The panellists will address several topics, including accessing equity lines of credit, pharma MNE and biopharma SME strategic alliances, enhancement of foreign VC opportunities through the removal of section 116, the monetization of drug royalty streams, as well as other financing models.
